OHEKA CASTLE

If you feel like staying for a few nights at the glamorous OHEKA Castle, you’ll enjoy the benefits of the exclusive golf course, available only to guests and members of the Cold Spring Country Club. You’ll play on a course that carries the imprints of top-notch golf architects, such as Seth Raynor, who designed the course in its first version in the 1920s. In 1968, the course was updated by another golf architect great, Robert Trent Jones. Practice your swing on the 18-hole course, or take a lesson with a professional to improve your game.

BETHPAGE STATE PARK GOLF COURSE

Five different courses here attract golfers of all skill levels. Players looking for a challenge should try their hand at the Black Course, where the U.S. Open Championship took place in 2002 and 2009. With the highest slope rating in the Northeast, the Black Course will put even the most skilled golfers to the test. Other players may want to try the less rigorous but still difficult Red or Blue Course, while casual golfers may be drawn the easier tees of the Yellow and Green Courses.

MONTAUK DOWNS STATE PARK GOLF COURSE

Praised by locals as one of the nicer public golf courses on Long Island, Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course can be a challenge, depending on the wind conditions for the day. It was named as one of the “Top 10 Best Municipal Courses” in 2013 by U.S. Links magazine. If you want to bring along the family, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and wading area can provide entertainment for your loved ones while you play the 18 holes. When noon arrives, everyone can gather together for lunch at the on-site grill room.

ATLANTIC GOLF

This course and its associated club have won several awards for providing a high-quality golf experience. On top of that, the course once chosen as the site of the Met Open. Underlying its high quality is a commitment to keeping the environment in tact. Course owner Lowell Schulman worked closely with environmentalists to protect the natural habitat of the animals that called the property home. Today, the course co-exists peacefully with species such as the tiger salamander and the Northern Harrier, a bird of prey.

BAITING HOLLOW GOLF CLUB

Here players can enjoy a course that’s seen a number of championships over the years, including the U.S. Open Qualifier and the Long Island PGA Championship. Open from 7 a.m. until dusk Monday through Thursday, and opening at 6:30 a.m. Friday through Sunday, the course offers a scenic view that stretches almost 7,000 yards. Once you’re done for the day, a comfortable and stylish club will provide the perfect place to relax after the game.
