PLANNING THE PERFECT MET’S OPENING DAY 2014

YOUR GUIDE TO CITI FIELD

Are you a huge baseball fan planning to be in the great state of New York on the 31st of March this year? Do you root for the Met’s during baseball season? If you’re looking for an exciting way to spend the day, you should buy your tickets now for opening day for the Met’s. Once that is taken care of, it becomes time to plan a day around this exciting event for all the members of your family.

START THE DAY OFF RIGHT

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you need to get your energy up for the exciting day ahead. According to CBS New York, there are five stand-out breakfast spots you should consider.

  1. Doughnut Plant – Perfect for the lover of the delectable round breakfast food, this breakfast joint has some of the best doughnuts the city has to offer.
  2. Clinton Street Baking Co. – If you are a pancake connoisseur, this is where you should sit down to break your fast.
  3. Five Leaves – This restaurant is best known for their ricotta pancakes. However, they also have a full breakfast menu so everyone in your family should find something to whet their appetite.
  4. Shopsin’s – As long as your family numbers four or less, this is an ideal place to experience some of the quirkiest breakfast foods you will ever find. For example, their Mo’Betta consists of maple bacon and scrambled eggs between two mac n’ cheese pancakes.
  5. Wally’s Square Root Café – A classic neighborhood corner restaurant has some great breakfast items with a modern twist. Try out their “Not French Toast” made out of sweet brioche.

Now that you’ve filled your belly with some of the best breakfast New York has to offer, it is time to experience the city like a true tourist.

CENTRAL PARK

An iconic part of the city, Central Park has several activities you and your family can participate in. Since you should have a few hours to spare before the 1:10 start time of the Met’s game on opening day, you might want to check out a Hidden Secrets of Central Park walking tour. They last about three hours and take you around to all the lesser known parts of the park. You will hear about the history of the park while experiencing New York City nature at its best.

If you have stuffed yourself past the point of participating in a walking tour, the next best thing would be a horse-drawn carriage around the park. An iconic activity for any visitor to the Big Apple, this is a great memory for both you and your kids.

GETTING TO THE GAME

Whether you’ve chosen to spend the early part of opening day in the splendor of Central Park or shopping along Fifth Avenue, an exciting and memorable way to get to the game is by taking the train. Just be sure to keep an eye out for the different stops so you don’t miss yours.

If you really want to give your kids a day they won’t forget, the best mode of transportation would be by Met’s limousine. This is an exciting and luxurious way to get to and from each of your destinations. You can relax knowing you don’t have to deal with traffic and your kids can pretend they are famous while being chauffeured around the city.

AFTER THE GAME

Once the excitement of the first pitch has passed and the sun is starting to set, the best way to close this perfect day out is to make your way to Times Square so you can truly experience the bright lights of the big city. You just can’t get a feel of the modern neon signs in daylight, so go stand in the middle of Times Square and just take in the sights and sounds. Just be ready to cover their eyes if the Naked Cowboy happens to be playing on one of the corners.

While you may have started this day out to be strictly for enjoying the opening day of the Met’s, if you carefully plan your day out you can give your family the kind of memories that will last a lifetime.
